PLAYERKILLING

Here in Avendar, playerkilling starts at level 11. This means
that once you reach level 11, you may attempt to attack other
people. Contrawise, other people may attempt to attack you.
Acceptable targets for playerkilling (or "pking") are players
whose experience total is within 30% of yours, or whose level
is +/- 8 levels of your own. To attack another player, use
the MURDER command, which is the principle way of starting a
fight with another player.

Mechanics aside though, here's the real reason we have player-
killing here: We think that any role-playing environment
without it suffers a critical loss. Imagine playing a
holy crusader, dedicated to stamping out any and all evil in
the land. Now, imagine a despicable thief, who makes his living
by stealing the gold of the innocent, and sliding his blade
between the ribs of whoever displeased him. Without player
killing, imagine what would happen if these two met!
Would they just exchange curses? Yell at each other? Why
does the warrior fight if the only evils he can vanquish
the monsters of the realm? Is the thief doomed to preying only
on innocent computer controlled creatures?

We here think that a world without playerkilling is a world
without the vibrancy that a real world *should* have. In order
to really play the roles you've chosen for yourself in our
fantasy world, you need to be able to really interact
with others. For this to happen, this interaction has to occur
on a more than superficial level - one player has to be
able to threaten what the other holds most dear, and the
stuff that really matters, such as the ideals of the participants,
get played out along this backdrop. Players can live, breathe,
fight, and die here on Avendar, and that's the world the
way we like it.
