At Avendar we help governments fight crime and fraud using data and AI. Our mission is to make Europe safer. For this purpose we are building a platform that increases the productivity and quality of investigators, detectives and researchers working for governments.

Avendar was founded early 2025 by 3 experienced serial founders with over 20 years of experience in fintech, legal, and construction. We have hands-on experience with deploying high risk AI systems to production in highly regulated environments, and have the Dutch National Police and the Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security as our launching customers. We are currently starting projects with other government agencies.

Opportunity

We are looking for founding engineers who can help us build our core platform, develop the use cases that we currently have, and ensure we have best-in-class technology. This role suits someone who cares about shipping software, isn’t constrained by front-end, backend or infrastructure domains, and has experience, or a strong interest in, building AI/ML systems. You'll build alongside the founders, talk to real users, and make decisions that define our technical direction for years to come.

The work

  • End-to-end engineering, building a robust, secure web application for investigators in the public safety & intelligence industry.
  • High-level of ownership, you are responsible for having the context and using all the tools that are needed to build the product.
  • Forward deployed engineering (working directly with customers). We are not looking for someone who can do sales, but we believe that interacting directly with customers leads to the best product.

Requirements

  • Productive and fast in web frameworks (Next.js, React) or similar, our tech stack is still open to influence from you.
  • Comfortable with backend development and databases (Python/Postgres).
  • Knowledge of, or experience with deploying and managing production software.

Nice to have

  • Experience with building Data Science, ML or AI systems.
  • Previous startup experience, or experience in the intelligence, public safety or government sectors.

Practicalities

  • Compensation based on experience (€4k to €8k), full-time position
  • 0.25% to 1.00% equity, since we are looking for a long-term key employee
  • Hybrid-remote working environment, we have an office in ‘s-Hertogenbosch
